- Kenya joined the Global Partnership for Education in 2005.
- The National Education Sector Plan covers the period 2013-2018. The plan focuses on ensuring equitable access, retention, attainment, and achievement.
- Kenya has received two GPE grants to support the implementation of its education sector plans and progress in education:
- US$121 million for 2005-2008.
- US$88.4 million for 2015-2019.
- The first GPE grant has led to the following outcomes, contributing to progress in the education sector:
- Increased the transition rate to secondary education from 54% to 67%.
- Developed strategies for secondary education, technical, industrial, vocational education and training, and university education.
- Decreased the student-textbook ratio from 3:1 to 2:1.
